Well, my gosh. That was … gosh.
Gosh.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along at some point last night, whether your visits were fleeting or extensive, whether you killed one boar with a wooden stick, or many.
I have to say it was one of the most amazing nights in WoW I think I have ever had; I basically sat on a rock in Tirisfal, while the mist rolled in, and was dazed with joy.
It felt like nothing so much as the reunion of old friends.
And, ye gods, can blogging communities talk…
And if nothing else it does illustrate something I suspect we’ve always known: wherever we come from, however much bicker and debate and disagree, regardless of the perspective we bring and the priorities we claim: we all really love WoW.
I honestly don’t know if Single Abstract Noun fills a long-term need … or whether we’ll talk ourselves to exhaustion in three days flat but, for me at least, something definitely clicked into place … and I hope Single Abstract Noun is something we’ll want to keep going. And even if not: it’s still bloody good fun.
Some clarifications:
1. You don’t need to have a blog, or have had a blog – if you’re interested in joining us, we’re interested in having you. It’s why I keep calling it a “communities” guild rather than a blogger’s guild or something.
2. You don’t have to wait for me to be on-line or anything like that – any member of Single Abstract Noun can invite anyone else into the guild
3. What you “do” in or with the guild is entirely up to you – you can actually level a character, you can transfer some dusty alt over, you can roll a million alts and invite them all, you have a sole level 1 character who sits on a rock in the starting area and talks to people. You can hang around as much as you like or you can pop in for 10 minutes before your raid.
4. Argent Dawn – a few people have expressed concerns that AD is a both “full” and a roleplaying server. I chose it simply because it’s an established, mature server and I love the place. There’s no obligation to actually do the RP thing (and if you’ve never been on a RP server before, I recommend it heartily – you’ll never look back. Even if you’re not roleplaying yourself the richness other people bring to the world around them is amazing), although of course we do have to respect of the rules of an RP server (not that I think any of us are desperate to call ourselves LOLIPWNZU anyway). In terms of being full, I’ve had actually very little difficulty: lag is not horrific and the worst that’s ever happened is a short queue a peak times. If the weight of bloggers greeting each other topples AD then we can hop a free migration elsewhere but I expect no problems at all, to be honest.
And a request:
I’m not trying to make a meme but if you do think hanging around in Single Abstract Noun is something you’ll enjoy doing then please feel free to, y’know, mention it on your blog, and encourage your readers to join us. I do read a fair few blogs but I do have my blindspots. You don’t have to link back to either of the posts here either – the whole point is to get as much as the community involved who want to be, not just people who happen to be passing by Righteous Orbs on the right day at the right time.
I also had a bad PUG story to relate but now I’m far too happy.
Proper posting to happen again … at some point soon. I believe Chas has srs things to say about the Cataclysm stat changes.

Currently online (and will be most of the day) as Astolat if anyone is wanting an invite
This was a great idea, Tam. The US chapter of Single Abstract Noun is going well, too! I had some stuff to do last night, but I popped in and out to much chatter. Most of it healing chatter, but still!
My recent post Cataclysmic Changes for Holy Paladins… or Not
We talked about oozes … hmmm … I don't know if this says bad things about the Stateside Chapter or the European chapter
I'm really glad to hear good reports of the US Chapter – I guess it's slightly more difficult for you folks over there because of time zones.
Will there be a guild site for the EU and US guilds to share? cough*hint*cough
I suppose nothing prevents you from putting one up if you like? This is kind of a free-no-restrictions project. However there are still quite a few focal points already for the wow blogosphere, such as Blog Azeroth, Azeroth United and Twisted Nether. Maybe those can be used for coordination… if we need some kind of that, can't quite imagine what it could be.
If you want to sort of document fun stuff that goes on in the guild, I imagine every single blog participating in this will work. If it's worth writing about, you can count on that not only one but many bloggers will do it, from different perspecitves.
My recent post Blogging about your guild may put you in trouble
Yes, I was tempted to throw a test site as a subdomain of Righteous Orbs simply to keep the European and America branches in touch … but I was worried about basically replicating the work of Blog Azeroth / Azeroth United etc, as Larisa says. I think it would be nice to have a co-ordinated corner however – perhaps the most sensible thing to do – if we think we do need a little corner of Single Abstract Noun – will be for me to contact the Blog Azeroth people and ask if they'd be willing to give us a forum there?
US(****/Oceanic****) Chapter is up to 44 accounts as of this morning. I am Exceptionally grumpy that we cant talk to our brethren on EU servers. Already a thriving community, and a family

I love that Saunder, as an Aussie, added LOTS OF EXTRA STARS around Oceanic.

I had much fun last night – Was meaning to log out just after around 11 o'clock and didn't end up going until way past 12. So much chatter about so many different things. I can see this being pretty awesome and the amount of blogs I read is definintly going to shoot up!
My recent post Racials: Srs Bizniss
Ditto – I did absolutely nothing, no levelling, no nothing, just stood around designing an orange tabard and giggling like a maniac at the conversation. And now I am knackered
I'm actually meant to be raiding tonight and I'm feeling … can you believe it … disappointed I won't be standing around doing nothing again
I joined, and mentioned you in my latest post. I had a very nice conversation going with Issy for a while.
The place just radiates peace, it's amazing. Or is that just me going back to horde?
It's probably your inner hordie sighing in pleasure and relief
Thanks again for joining – it was great to see you
<Single Abstract Noun> was a *great* idea – The people there were so nice! Sometimes really feel lonely while questing and co, so having people to chat or just watching people chatting is great, especially when the people are so welcoming
Only problem is I'm really busy hunting down Elders on my main right now – argh.
WTB Cross-Server Chat!
Anyway, I'll blog about it too, though nobody reads Imaginaryskies.
My recent post [WoW] Getting ganked aint fun…
Great fun
I even enjoyed shaman for the first time ever, perhaps it's the cow that did it, but the company certainly helped. Thanks for the orange tabard!

You go to one single conference, one tiny inchy little shit conference, and go offline for 1 1/2 day. And you are left behind.
Dammit.
I'll pop by asap
Is it advisable to join if you're mildly dyslectic like me and get headaches from constantly getting lost in too much scrolling text?

I've always wanted to try playing on an RP server. All I need to do now is A. find some time and B. shaman, hunter or priest. Decide on a class and race combo.

WTB cross-server, cross-faction, cross-continent chat please! I was poking around yesterday to see if it's even possible to roll a character on EU servers for us US folks and it isn't. (Shows what I know!) I'm glad to hear how you all are having fun though. Having "one of the most amazing nights" you've ever had in WoW sounds to me like something you probably needed.
My recent post Score one for Scruffy.
Grats! It does indeed sound fun, and I'll probably roll on Missy's server when I have a chance. My in-game time has to be balanced with RL, so it tends to be pretty focused and full, but it still would be fun to stop by from time to time.
cheers!
"And, ye gods, can blogging communities talk…"
Hey, we're all fanboys and fangirls of each other, so what you get is a lot of mutual sqeeeeing. I'm not too proud to admit I had a lot of that going on over on KT when we did the Run for the Cure event. Hey, there's Miss Medicina! Hydra! RATTERS! JONG! ::swoon::
So, yes, excitable babbling will ensue.
Looking forward to this weekend so I can get mine up on the Alli side. Maybe Friday. Depends on our raiding schedule.

Heh you know I was talking about an alt I rolled on an RP realm to take a look? It is on Argent Dawn. So, this weekend, I’m so joining Single Abstract Noun!

No….. *sniff sniff* I'm on the oceanic servers
I can't join Single Abstract Noun……
You can absolutely come join the US charter. We have several Aussies and Kiwis already

Yes Lifedeathsoul you sure can, and we're having a great time! I'm from oz, happy to help you get started with a gold piece or two.

Well I have been lurking here long enough that I am ready to talk
I forgot momentarily that I was on the wrong side of the ocean to join and then was crashing in disappointment until I kept reading to see that I can join up here..won't be the same without you though, Tam. I am very happy that you opened it up to readers as well as bloggers because we all feel very connected to you and appreciate the time you take to write about your game experiences. For me it is as fun as playing..catching up with the daily hijinx, speculation & Deep Thoughts.
I am a member of the WoW Insider guild "It came from the Blog" and Robin holds great just-for-fun events often that bring the readers and writers together. I am always the one sheepishly starstuck in the corner
I wish you all the best in this venture and can't wait to have an Alliance vs Horde "Single Abstract Noun" War when we can cross the ocean!
what about a simple guildlaunch website? there are picture galleries there fro all the fun screenshots and forums that can be customized and roster and all sorts of fun guild stuff
Just wanted to chip in with another 'woop how cool was that?!' post about Single Abstract Noun – really friendly, chatty guild, definitely somewhere to while away the evening hours! I'm swallowing my pride and embracing the joy of the Horde! I'm glad I'll have somewhere nice to roll my goblin, my main failure to level anything of worth Horde side is due to all my friends and guildies being Alliance and I just get bored and lonely not being able to chatter away to anyone.
And trolls DO have the best hair.
Really chatty guild, i kinda like rolling in late, and seeing about 15 people still on waffling about anything that comes up.
A very enlightening alternative to the daily slog that is my main on another server.
RP servers are very much a good thing!
Typical, spend a day at sea doing the Thursday War and miss all the fun. My lvl 17 Priest from Eonar is transferring over as we speak, see you all tonight!
Primly and I (the Chinese leveling Company aka Broxnar) had just a wonderful afternoon running around Durotar, laying waste to piggie men and destabilizing the environmental balance through the destruction of key animal species. Your typical Orcs at play if you will.
I do not have a blog but love to read about the world I so cherish, so this is fanboi paradise as one person said in Guild Chat. Anyone up for RFC later on this evening?
I wish you all Rainbows & Unicorns
Broxnar Orc Warrior and Gentleman Adventurer

Oh I missed the launching day… :'(
I'm now logged on AD-EU, and will try to find a guildie…
The hardest part was choosing a name, and a class, because it had to be a troll… And Nefernet is my dear night elf hunter…
Soooo : Kinie, female troll shaman…
I can't wait to meet everyone !
My recent post I missed it
I really wish I’d had more time to spend talking to you all that evening! Luckily I have some time to myself this evening, so I shall try popping on and getting Uvkasha beyond level 1.
I think someway to tie together all posts mentioning Single Abstract Noun would be awesome, but I’m not sure how achievable it is.

Is it a bad thing if English isn't my mother language? I'd love to join, but I'm a bit afraid…
Come and join us
The atmosphere is lovely, and everyone seems very willing to help out with language questions
Lack of ability to make characters cross-continent makes me sad. I *know* I'll have bad latency if I make a character on that server, Blizz, why can't you let me do it anyway, just to say hi to my friends? I would have started my WoW account back up in a heartbeat if I was allowed to make a character on an EU server, but as it is, joining the US chapter is something that I'll probably wait to do until I start up my account again to check out the next patch. Why do most of the bloggers I read have to live in Europe? *grumbles*

In my opinion if you wanted to do that, it would be best to get an extra forum put in. We'd have to contact Phae, none of the mods have the ability to add new forums sadly else I could definitely help out there /wave.
