So for what it’s worth I’m not going to be updating this blog much over the course of November. I’m doing NaNo. Since I’m not cutting back on any of my other activities, this is going to take a huge bite out of my WoW time and a huge bite out of my blogging time so I’m probably not going to have much to write about, or much time to write it.
Broadly speaking I did NaNo last year and felt I got a lot out of it. I don’t actually particularly want to Be A Writer ™, I’m quite happy being a schoolteacher with a WoW blog, but I do like to have projects, and writing a 50,000 word novel in a month is as good a project as any. I don’t consider myself a great undiscovered genius (to paraphrase Bernard Black, I’m basically a great undiscovered wanker) but I find the actual work of putting a text together pleasurable.
Current word count 6.6k. It’s a high-fantasy thingumy with flying cities and colonialist mageocracies.

Good luck with the novel writing.
Every November it amazes me how much the hugely increased written output of bloggers *deprives* me of reading material. XD
It’s faintly ironic isn’t it…
What is nano? …(Or *who* is nano?)
Sounds very interesting. And no need to be modest, you are one of the best blog writers i read, so I don’t see why a full-fledged novel would be horrible (well, I guess the plot could be paper thin and the characters could be flat and unengaging, but that is so far from what im trying to do here)
Best of luck and have fun!
NaNo is short for NaNoWriMo, which us short for National Novel Writing Month.
People from around the country commit themselves to write a 50,000 (yes FIFTY THOUSAND) word novel from scratch within the month of November.
It is a massive undertaking, and I wish everyone taking the challenge good luck and God speed!
Flattered as I am by the vote of confidence, I don’t actually expect my nano to be anything other than, well, 50000 words long.
Writing a blog post is to writing a novel what making a grilled cheese sandwich is to catering a formal dinner for thirty. Now I make a pretty mean grilled cheese, but I’m not so hot on my mass catering.

Thanks Bronte, im going to have to check this out
Good luuk! I will miss your witty posts in the meantime!
haha! i cant even spell Luck today! Good Luck!
Thanks!
Whew!
Hope it goes well!
Look forward to seeing you back in November…
unless you get that fat book contract.
It’s going well so far (I’ve got a bit more than a day in hand, yay!)
Thanks for your encouragement.
Eugh, I don’t believe I WANT a mageocracy in my colon.
… oh, wait, you meant….
Best of luck with that, and let us know where we can find it when it’s done, yeah?
Hmm… colonic transmutation? Colonic evocation?
Not pleasant.
When it’s done it will almost certainly be consigned to my USB stick, never to see the light of day.
::weep:: you will so be missed.
I’ll try to make up for the loss of Tamness by using lots of words like tosser and wanker in my posts.
Tam’s still posting, it’s just me who’s taking November off (I swear I get this all the time, we’d pug dungeons together and people would ask Tam if he was multiboxing).
Not at all, it’s because I am better than you Chas
Ideally don’t forget to add dinosaurs!!!
Let us know how it goes!
Joe – long time no see, how are you?
I’ve been working horrible hours now i’ve moved to cambridge. Finally I’m getting back on WoW and then a whole load of other games mocked me, so I took them on. I’m now passing time eating chocolate, dreaming of dinosaur adventures and replanning my woeful blog that never gets past three posts. Oh and I roled an alt on Argent Dawn for good measure: Passiflora.
I have been keeping tabs over here, jsut not commented due to passing out. Still the funniest place for reading if I do say so myself!
Whats name you writing under Tam, I want to be your writing buddy, mine is ccavelle
I’m not doing it, Chas is, (don’t worry, easy mistake to make). I did it last year, but this year I’m slightly too busy (also Dragon Age is coming out
).
